As the days ’til the exam gets fewer, the level of your stress increases. It’s been giving you mini anxiety attacks just by the thought of it. Its part of the whole college experience and it is at its peak during exams just because you have a lot riding on it. The trick, however, is to not let it get the best of you. You have to learn to control it before it takes over your life.

  • Stress is inevitable but the best way to deal with it is to prevent it or at least minimize it. Once you see the signs of exams approaching prepare yourself. When you start getting ready early it makes you feel more confident about yourself.
  • Surround yourself with optimistic and encouraging people. Stress can be contagious and being around people who are tense and procrastinate a lot will not help you. They can only increase your stress levels. Be with people who are calm and helpful so their optimism can rub on you instead.
  • When in doubt, ask for help. If you still don’t understand how that new code can help the database your creating,  it’s time you find a remedy to it now. This is the time to get answers to the topics that confuse you so when exams come; you’ll be ready for it. Ask your IT professor for clarifications or get your friends to explain things to you.
  • Say no to distractions. When you’re set to study, turn down any offers from anyone who will prevent you from doing so. Almost anything compared to studying is more fun but stay strong in midst of temptation. You may miss a good movie or a great party but passing those up for an exam is better than failing.
  • Be healthy. This is not to be taken lightly. Exercising and eating healthy is an important. Eating the right kind of food can keep your blood sugar stable while a 15-min walk or job can help keep you more focused and calm.
  • Get a good night’s sleep the night before an exam. It’s important to relax your mind before the big day. Try to have a good breakfast and arrive at school early so you have plenty of time to get yourself settled in.
  • During the exam, remember to take a deep breath. If you forget something you’ve studied, do not panic. Panic will only make it harder to remember. Try to move on to the next question instead and go back to that one after.

When you’ve done everything you can to prepare then there really is no need to stress out. Just relax and take things one question at a time. Be confident and have faith in yourself. Soon you’ll realize how much all your hard work paid off when you find that score on your paper a week later.
